6: Keep my plants looking their best

Taking care of your plants and keeping them looking great requires weeding and pruning, and the occasional deadheading.

Weeds tend to pop up in your plant pots when seeds and tiny plants get mixed into your soil – normally, as a result of birds or squirrels. Weeds end up stealing nutrients from your plant, so it’s important to check for weeds regularly and pull any you find out from the roots so they won’t return.

Pruning away dead leaves and cutting off the dead flowers keeps your plants looking healthy and encourages growth. Make sure you cut the whole stem at the base, and clean up the dead flowers or leave to stop disease.
